Your first appointment is called an intake session. Your therapist will:
- Ask questions about your goals, concerns, and history
- Help you begin exploring what’s going on
- Work with you to create a personalized treatment plan
- Discuss the frequency and structure of future sessions
Yes — confidentiality is a core part of our work. Your therapist will protect your privacy in accordance with both ethical guidelines and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) laws. There are a few legal exceptions, which your therapist will explain during your first session.

Our VDVS Suicide Prevention and Opioid Addiction Services Program is designed to support veterans, service members, and their families by addressing the dual challenges of suicide risk and opioid addiction. Through a combination of evidence-based counseling, peer support groups, family engagement, and community partnerships, we provide comprehensive care that promotes safety, resilience, and recovery.
